Youth Engagement Volunteer

If you're aged 18 to 24, living in Hertfordshire, and passionate about creating positive change, join Herts Young Homeless (hyh) as a Youth Engagement Volunteer.

At hyh, we work to prevent youth homelessness and support young people facing challenges such as family breakdown, domestic abuse, and mental health difficulties. We believe young people should help shape the services designed for them, and that's why we need you! As part of our friendly and supportive team, you'll help make sure young people's voices are heard, valued and acted on.

What you'll be doing

Help shape exciting youth events

Support the planning, promotion and delivery of Youth Advisory Board meetings, Youth Summits and other engagement activities.

You'll:

  • Help create fun, interactive ways to explore important issues and gather young people's views
  • Support the development of session plans, resources and agendas
  • Take part in recording actions and following up after events
  • Collect and analyse feedback to help improve future activities

Recruit and support young volunteers

Help us find and welcome more young people into hyh.

You'll:

  • Create engaging adverts and application guidance
  • Help develop application and interview questions

Support work experience opportunities

Help create positive and meaningful experiences for young people.

You'll:

  • Design interesting, engaging and enjoyable work experience programmes
  • Help participants get the most from their time with hyh

Stay connected with our youth network

Help build a strong community of young people involved with hyh.

You'll:

  • Communicate with Youth Advisory Board alumni and volunteers
  • Create updates, newsletters and exciting opportunities to stay involved

Commitment:

  • 1 day per week on a Tuesday or Wednesday
  • We hope volunteers will be able to stay involved for around 12 months, but we understand circumstances can change. Any time off needed for holidays/exams/other commitments will be honoured.

What's in it for you?

  • Build valuable skills in leadership, event planning and communication
  • Gain experience and a reference to boost your CV, university or job applications
  • Meet like-minded young people and grow your confidence
  • Make a genuine difference in the lives of young people across Hertfordshire
