You Said, We Did: How Young People Are Shaping hyh’s Fundraising and Events
Our 2025 Youth Advisory Board (YAB) didn’t just give feedback, they helped steer the hyh ship. Here’s how their insights drove real change in hyh’s fundraising, events, and marketing.
More exciting, accessible fundraising options
They said: Fundraising needed to be more exciting, inclusive, and accessible, with options that feel fun and engaging.
We did: We launched our Run for Charity membership, giving young people access to over 800 events, including muddy runs and inflatable challenges that match their interests and energy.
More youth-led, meaningful events
They said: Events should feel more relevant and co-created, with opportunities for young people to take the lead.
We did: We’re developing events co-produced with young people across Hertfordshire. Joel, a YAB member, ran his own school sleep out to raise vital funds for hyh and spread awareness of our work.
Meet young people where they are
They said: If we want to connect with young people, we need to show up on platforms they actually use, like TikTok and Snapchat.
We did: We’re stepping up our social media presence and creating content where young people already are. You can now follow us on our TikTok and Instagram, where we share resources for young people and how hyh can support them.
Tackle the ‘awkwardness’ around fundraising
They said: Some young people feel embarrassed or unsure about fundraising, which can hold them back from
getting involved.
We did: We’re creating a new, tailored fundraising pack designed to build confidence and celebrate youth-led
passion. Watch this space, it’s coming soon!
By listening to young people and acting on what they tell us, we’re not just improving our fundraising and events. We’re making them more inclusive, relevant, and empowering. The YAB’s voices are helping us build opportunities that truly resonate, ensuring young people aren’t just part of the conversation, but at the heart of the change.
