In a nutshell, what do you do?
I am a volunteer and work with hyh one day a week. I mainly work with the fundraising team and my tasks are very diverse; building data bases, coordinating mail outs, stocktaking, folding raffle ticket stubs, organising tombola prizes. I never know what I will be doing when I walk through the door each Tuesday!
What appealed to you most about joining hyh?
hyh was one of the chosen charities at the company at which I worked. I formed part of their charities committee and was very impressed with the work and ethos of hyh, especially the focus on prevention. When I retired and was looking to use some of my time to give something back to the community, hyh was the obvious choice.
What is the most rewarding thing?
I love working with the hyh team; their dedication and enthusiasm is inspiring. It is always a thrill to get positive responses from mailings, pledging support, donating funds and/or gifts. It is such a pleasure to work amongst these wonderful, warm, friendly people and it is fantastic to feel part of the team.
What do you hope to achieve whilst working at hyh?
I would like to think that I am making a contribution to the work done by hyh. It is difficult to put into words but there is something so rewarding knowing you are giving something back and helping those less fortunate.
