In a nutshell, what do you do?
My role is to educate young people in Hertfordshire and deliver sessions on topics including the realities of homelessness, independent living and budgeting, conflict resolution, healthy relationships, and anger management. We aim to provide young people with the skills, knowledge and information to avoid crisis and know where to get help and support.
What appealed to you most about joining hyh?
Being able to make a difference to the lives of young people. I whole-heartedly agree with the vision and mission of hyh – I love that education is utilised as a first point of prevention to youth homelessness.
What is the most challenging part of what you do?
Schools are extremely busy so, making sure we are working with timetables and schedules as best we can. We are determined to educate every young person in Hertfordshire!
What is the most rewarding thing?
It is extremely rewarding when you hear the buzz around a classroom of young people having discussions about the session in hand. Also, to read the feedback and to see what they have learned and gained from the session.
What do you hope to achieve whilst working at hyh?
To continue educating myself about issues that young people can face in day-to-day life to then successfully to pass vital information on to ensure they can make informed choices, stay safe and know that help is always there.
