In a nutshell, what do you do?
I work in the HUB team supporting 16/17 year olds that need urgent advice on their housing.
I started as a social work student and found the organisation and staff to be warm and welcoming. The organisation helped me develop my skills, knowledge, and confidence so much that it was hard to leave!
What appealed to you most about joining hyh?
Hyh staff truly want the best for the young people they support, my colleagues are some of the kindest, warmest and empathetic people I know.
What is the most challenging part about what you do?
It’s difficult at times to hear the situations the young people we work with are in, especially at 16 & 17 years old.
What is the most rewarding thing?
Having a safe place to sleep is a basic need that no one should have to go without, the most rewarding part of my role is supporting young people to meet this need whether it be supporting them to remain at home or finding alterative accommodation where that is not possible.
What do you hope to achieve whilst working at hyh?
I hope to make a difference in the lives of some young people, even the smallest difference that helps a young person to see what they are capable of and how they can make a better future for themselves.
