Young people’s voices heard at our first youth summit workshop

Last month, a group of our hyh staff, our fantastic volunteer Ricky and our Trustee, Ross, set up base at The University of Hertfordshire for our first ever youth summit. We were joined by a group of young people, aged between 14 and 18, from across Hertfordshire who had kindly given up a part of their half term to help us learn how to better communicate with young people.

Our youth engagement lead, Michelle, led us through a full packed afternoon with workshops designed to give us an insight into how young people like to be communicated with online.

The participants were invited to share their thoughts on a range of media including our website, social media and video productions.

One of our current strategic focuses is to be more youth led. This means involving young people in some of the behind the scenes work we do as a charity and bringing young people’s voices into the center of our decision making.

Michelle, our youth engagement lead, said: “As a local charity, representing local young people, we want the support of local young people to make sure that we represent them well”

hyh Trustee, Ross, said “It was great to see how we could better engage with those we aim to support, which is essential if we want to reach even more people in need of our services".
